Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine transport mode requirements for freight
   • Transport modes and their features are investigated
   • Infrastructure required to support transport modes is determined
   • Impact of current and emerging technologies relevant to transport modes is evaluated
   • Regulatory requirements that may impact on transport services operations are identified
2. Determine operational environment of the business
   • Major forms and purposes of warehousing and distribution systems are identified
   • Links and relationships between transportation systems, and distribution and warehousing systems are evaluated
   • Regulatory requirements that may impact on warehouse operations are identified
   • Factors that impact on growth areas for the sector are identified
   • Future challenges and projections for the business are researched
3. Determine external services required by the business
   • Range of services offered by service providers connected to the business is confirmed
   • Relevant regulatory requirements that may impact on service providers operations are identified
   • Importance of service providers and their impact on the supplier, operation of the business and its customers is evaluated
4. Review role and responsibilities
   • Organisational structure and own role in the organisation are identified
   • Area of responsibility is confirmed in accordance with own job role and operating procedures
   • Own performance standards are determined in accordance with job role and operating procedures
   • Work processes are adapted to meet unplanned occurrences in accordance with operating procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include: completing relevant documentation developing competence in response to changes in activities, and legislative and organisational requirements identifying and anticipating operational problems, hazards and risks, and taking appropriate action identifying and correctly using relevant equipment interpreting and applying relevant regulations and instructions modifying activities dependent on workplace contingencies, situations and environments monitoring work activities in terms of planned schedule reading, interpreting and following relevant work requirements, policies and procedures.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

current and emerging issues impacting on the transport and logistics industry, including infrastructure needs, technological changes and future challenges local and national trends in the transport and logistics industry, including emerging industry practices and needs organisational policies and procedures, including those relating to own area of responsibility and performance standards relevant sections of national and state/territory legislation, regulatory requirements, and codes of practice/or guidelines as they relate to the level and type of transport and logistics industry operations within own area of responsibility relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental procedures and guidelines.
